“Service to our country does not end when the uniform comes off. Here in Mars Hill, we continue serving one another, our neighbors, and the community we proudly call home.”
Community Resilience & Hurricane Recovery
Western North Carolina communities understand the true meaning of resilience. In times of hardship—especially following devastating storms and hurricane impacts across the region—veterans and local residents have stood side by side to support neighbors in need. The Mars Hill VFW has remained part of that effort, helping bring people together, offering support where possible, and reinforcing the spirit of service that defines both military life and Appalachian communities.
The Veterans Park reflects that same spirit of recovery and unity. It represents not only remembrance, but renewal—a place where community members can gather, reflect, and move forward together while honoring the strength, sacrifice, and perseverance that continue to shape Mars Hill and the surrounding region.
Supporting Local Veterans
The Mars Hill VFW provides a place where veterans can connect with others who understand the experiences of military service. The post helps veterans access resources, find peer support, and maintain the sense of camaraderie that is often missed after leaving active duty. Through outreach, fellowship, and community involvement, the VFW works to ensure veterans and their families know they are supported and valued within the Mars Hill community.
Serving The Community
Service remains at the heart of the Mars Hill VFW’s mission. Members regularly participate in local events, remembrance ceremonies, and community initiatives that strengthen Western North Carolina. From honoring national holidays and supporting local causes to helping neighbors during times of need, the post continues the tradition of service beyond military life—giving back to the community veterans proudly defended.
Honoring Service For Future Generations
Remembering those who served—and those who never returned—is an important responsibility carried forward by the VFW. The Mars Hill post helps organize ceremonies, memorial efforts, and projects like the Veterans Park to ensure future generations understand the sacrifices made for our freedoms. These efforts create lasting spaces where reflection, respect, and gratitude remain part of community life.
